↳ Intermezzo***#for the first few weeks they were complete rubbish at work #both of them #the doctor wouldn’t sleep more than a few hours at a time and that caught up to him fast #so he’d doze off on the couch in the early evening and rose would genuinely try to leave him alone but #inevitably her constant need to be touching him and be near him would win out and she’d gingerly settle in next to him #and she’d think to herself that of course she was trying not to wake him but #it only took a moment before she nuzzled his collar—he still smelled the same #so good and all hers now to share this life with #and it was only a moment more before she got an arm lightly over his belly #and if he woke up enough to tuck her in closer to him then so be it #and if he murmured things into her hair then so be it #and in the end that’s how he did most of his talking at first: into her hair and his fingers against her arm or her back #tapping or splaying or gesticulating along with the stories he told or what he felt like explaining #and in this sense he was different—he was not the time lord who kept himself at arm’s length but so painfully fallible #and so painfully and beautifully human #it threw her at first—but she recognized it as the doctor making reparations for all he’d kept from her before #and a new and different beginning to a new and different life #and if the haphazard reunion of minds and hearts (two not three) and mouths and bodies made them both a bit slow out of the gate #made them both shuffle into the torchwood office in the morning with espressos instead of tea #then so be it #well worth it (via neverwhyonlywho)
